It fit! It fit! (Dress Disaster Conclusion)

Ta-da! After a little over a month of solid diet and exercise (and no alcohol), my FAVORITE Betsey Johnson dress finally fit! Now, as you may recall from previous posts, it’s not that I gained a bunch of weight and then lost it. I fit into this dress 3 years ago, and haven’t gained any weight since. I guess I just gained in inches, but I was able to squeeze into it. And yes, I literally mean squeeze. The bodice is kind of corset-like and left me slightly bruised ( I know this sounds crazy), but anything for a little glamour! I was determined to fit in the dress without altering it. I mean why can’t I look just as good as I did 3 years ago, right? Mission accomplished.

Clay Aiken is WHAT???!!!!

After becoming a father (the not-so-old-fashioned way), Clay Aiken has finally revealed the worst kept secret in Hollywood. Good for him. His fans will hopefully support and embrace him as they always have.

Your move, Ricky Martin.

And the (Fashion) Emmy Goes To….

I actually really like a lot of the red carpet looks at last night’s Emmy Awards. I’ve posted some of my favorite styles. The theme was either all black or bright, punchy solids. And I’m not even going to address Eva Longoria’s ridiculous baby bump cover-up. America Ferrera and some others went goth chic, but I think Kate Walsh really did the look right. Both Teri Hatcher and Mariska Hargitay wore canary yellow, with Hatcher pulling it off much more effectively. Many of my favorite dresses employed ruffles done right. Brooke Shields undoubtedly gets my best-dressed honors, with a GORGEOUS fuchsia organza Badgley Mischka Couture gown. I mean, this is what glamour is all about! Nicolette Sheridan looked almost equally as stunning in a royal purple Angel Sanchez gown. Teri Hatcher wore Monique Lhuillier, as did Debra Messing. Kate Walsh was sleek and sultry in a black Zuhair Murad number. Now, who are YOUR favorites???

Update/Repost-Couture Dress Disaster!

UPDATE- The wedding is next weekend….and the dress ALMOST works! I’m determined to rock it! I’ll post the pics after the wedding-provided I can wear it! Wish me luck!

*******
Three years ago I bought and wore a GORGEOUS couture Betsey Johnson black cocktail/evening dress. I don’t have a clear picture and can’t find it online, so you will just have to trust that it’s beautiful. I want to wear it to a black tie wedding a couple of months from now-but there’s one hitch. I tried it on last night and it would not fit! It never fit easily and required much sucking in and adjusting, but this time it would not zip at all. When I woke up this morning, I was able to squeeze into it, but barely. The shape of the dress is such so no one would have a clue I am suffering. No bulges or anything. I weigh 101 pounds and have a C cup bust, but how can I not fit into it three years later? I haven’t gained any weight! So this is the dilemma: I am wearing the dress-not debatable. But as it is now, it cuts into me like a corset and I started to feel light-headed after several minutes (or maybe it was just because I hadn’t had breakfast yet?). So do I try to loose some water weight (anything “extra” I do have does settle around my waist) or do I take it to a tailor to let it out about an inch? It’s such a priceless piece of couture to me and I’m worried to have someone mess with the lining. I know the wedding is 3 months from now, but I’m already freaking out. Any suggestions?? Please help!

Rachel Zoe Project

I am really excited about Bravo’s new series, “Rachel Zoe Project.” Now, I know for many that Rachel Zoe is an acquired taste, but I happen to be a big fan. As a lover of all things glamour, she fits right in. And while watching her and her staff freak out over wardrobe fittings may incite only tiny violins, I think the show will be full of her little glam secrets as well as some mindless fun. The show follows her attempt to brand herself and begin a clothing/accessories line of her own. Zoe comes from the camp of “more is more” and she is notorious for those big sunnies and 70’s inspired flair. I’m not as in love with the 70’s as she is, but I do like her taste in accessories. So, what do you guys think? Will you watch? Do you like her style? And by “style” I’m not talking about how skinny she is!

Fashion Slam

One trend I really like for the fall is the ruffled tops. It seems like a perfect evolution of last fall’s tuxedo shirt. Below are some pics that illustrate the look perfectly from Nanette Lepore to Elizabeth & James to Forever 21. Are you guys digging the ruffled look? Let me hear you!

Red Carpet Slam-VMA’s!

When it comes to red carpet fashion, the VMA’s never seem to disappoint. I didn’t notice a ton of exciting choices, but there definitely were some bold looks. I thought Christina Aguliera looked great, even if she is a little late to the blunt bangs trend. Pink stood out in red and black vertical stripes and Rhianna was effortlessly hip as usual. Below are my three favorite looks. I thought Ashley Tisdale was a little toned down for MTV, but I just adore her brilliant white dress. Audrina Patridge showed off her relatively new cleavage in a flirty mini-dress. But my absolute favorite fashion statement last night was music’s current It girl, Katy Perry. I know all won’t agree, but I love her pin-up inspired ensemble. From the feathers on her satin shorts, to her shiny hair clip, I just loved it. It may be a little costume-y, but she definitely made a statement on who she is. I think the purple pumps were a perfect accent. And lastly, we must give her additional props for forgoing designer duds in favor of thrift store finds! But now I want to know, what do you guys think?

The ‘Real’ Elitists a.k.a. McCain’s $300,000 outfit!

In an attempt to further alienate Americans from the Democratic Party, the Grand Ole Republicans have branded us as “elitists.” I think there are much worse names to be called, but apparently this one really offends middle America. This past Tuesday, Cindy McCain joined Laura Bush onstage at the Republican National Convention. All seemed well ( or nauseating-you pick), until I discovered a lovely Vanity Fair article that revealed the McCain’s are just as elitist as-not democrats- but as other RICH PEOPLE! McCain’s Oscar de la Renta dress retails around $3,000. Although this pales in comparison to her $4500 Chanel watch. Not to be outdone by her $280,000 diamond earrings! So my friends, I ask who do you believe are the real elitists? My answer is not the democrats, nor the republican party. Just the wealthy republicans who want to run the free world. Don’t be fooled into thinking they are from a “down home” background. Those roots are long gone. What do you think?

Beauty Slam

This picture caught my eye-pun intended-while I was flipping through Sephora’s fall catalogue. It’s a combination of 80’s press-on nails and make-up by Coloron, called “Eye Envy.” The result is literally a “press n’ peel” eyeshadow! No work required. The colors range from everyday neutrals to the more daring-to be polite-palettes of camouflage, zebra and leopard. At first, I thought these patterns were absolutely ridiculous, but after researching this post, my creative side was intrigued. I could almost see sporting a little leopard eye if paired with the subtlety of wearing all black, with an up ‘do, maybe. Is this trendy or trashy? What do you guys think?!
